One of the things that we love about doing what we do is that while assembling information about businesses in the area, we get to see first- hand that great American business spirit.  Additionally, when we conduct further research into the humble beginnings of some of the businesses, their stories are not only amazing but also inspirational.

Take Empire Beauty Schools for example:  It is one of the largest cosmetology school networks in North America, combines over 75 years of experience and has over 109 locations. In Minnesota alone there are four schools including Eden Prairie, Bloomington, Saint Paul and Spring Lake Park. Empire educates over 20,000 cosmetology students annually. Although the company is headquartered in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, it has figured out how to assimilate itself into local communities and create a nurturing, family-like environment.  In speaking with Executive Director Jessica Bollingmo, we learned that the school’s mission is to create opportunities for people to improve their lives.   Jordan Rogers serves as the school’s Career Planning Specialist, Ann Nelsen and Charlene Kohls serve the schools instructors and Jacquelyn Carlson serves as the Customer Service Coordinator. When entering the school,  one notices the culture the school has created as well as the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Students are constantly evaluated  and encouraged to improve their skills and techniques, and ultimately to acquire licenses in their respective field.

Cosmetology, which includes hair, skin and nails,  is an industry that a student can start school, graduate, get their license and begin a new career in a year or less.  Empire is always striving for continuous improvement- and is one of their core values; always making sure those students who attend one of their locations is truly getting the most out of their education.   The company really puts a focus on industry relations to build partnerships with local salons in the area to help student to really see what opportunities are available when they graduate.  Empire hosts different competitions through out the year, really encouraging students to show off their talents. 

January 2014 and February 2014 classes and starts new classes every three weeks. Additionally, the school works with its student through on-the-job training, and offers salon services to the public at incredibly low prices.  

Another way of giving back to the community is that Empire Beauty School in Eden Prairie offers members of the armed forces, firefighters, and police officers FREE haircuts. The company also raises funds for local charities throughout the year by participating in Empire Gives Back.
